Jewellery Sizing—Find The Right Fit

Jewellery Sizing—Find The Right Fit

Like people, jewellery comes in all shapes and sizes and sometimes it can be difficult to determine the proper size.

For rings, there are a few ways to measure the size of your finger.

  1. Use a string or piece of floss. It may not be the most sophisticated way of measuring one's finger, but it works. Take a piece of string or floss and wrap it around the base of your finger. Next, take a pen and mark the point where the string or floss overlaps. Last, use a ruler to measure the length of the string or floss, in millimetres. Then download and print a ring size chart to find out your ring size.

  2. Find out the size of a ring you already own. If you like to wear rings, but can't remember your size, that's okay. Just download and print a ring size chart and measure the size of the ring you do have.

  3. Buy your own ring-measurement tool online. You can find your own ring-measurement tools on Amazon that are inexpensive.

  4. Visit us at Cross Your Heart Jewellers. Sometimes the best way to get a true measurement is to just come in and have your finger sized by one of us. We'll make sure you find the perfect fit.

To determine chain length, there are several different sizes. Please keep in mind that neck size, height and body type all affect chain length and how the necklace will actually look on you.

  1. 14”: Wraps closely around the neck and fits like a choker.
  2. 16”: Sits a little looser than a choker and typically sits at the base of the neck like a collar. On petite women, it hangs loosely around the collar and on plus size women, it may fit more like a choker.
  3. 18”: A common and classy choice for women. Falls just on or just below the collarbone.
  4. 20”: Falls just below the collarbone and allows for more breathing room.
  5. 22”: Falls just above or slightly below the bust.
